This post and beam structure allows for an expansive use of glass integrated into the design bringing the outdoors in throughout the seasons. The design also allows for timber frame construction to seamlessly blend with modern design elements providing a contemporary yet open and warm feeling. The kitchen’s design and material elements are compatible with those utilized throughout the adjoining great room and beyond creating a cohesive space which creates a harmonious relationship between the kitchen spaces and great room with distinctive areas for daily living and entertaining.
Various heights were used to define work zones within the kitchen and create a separation between the living, dining and kitchen areas and also creates a space for double sided storage. The island design is based on an entertaining lifestyle where multiple work stations are utilized. This multi-cook kitchen features four prep zones, two clean up areas and a total of 12 major appliances while managing to not look industrial. A separate coffee and wet bar station along with a dual-sided custom side board enhance the functionality of this space. It’s lower, ergonomic cooking surface allows for panoramic views of the 20+ acres of fields and forest. The design celebrates the contrast between the warm, Douglas fir flooring and sharp stainless steel railings with black wrought iron structural details. The white countertops and white glass backsplash along with the gray stained and washed maple cabinetry extend this juxtaposition.
