6894 - Between a Stone & a Half Bath

The homeowners needed a first-floor bathroom, so we transformed an unused closet and adjacent space at the bottom of the stairs into a beautifully designed half bath that feels both luxurious and efficient.

A true focal point of the space is the natural stone vessel sink, set atop a richly stained wood countertop and paired with a wall-mounted trough faucet—a combination that adds sculptural texture and organic warmth. The design is elevated further with mixed metal finishes throughout, balancing cool and warm tones to create a layered, collected feel in the compact space.

Despite the tight footprint, we met code by using a wall-mounted toilet and turning the studs on the flat to preserve the required 36” stair width. The existing staircase, previously out of level and plumb, was rebuilt with new risers, treads, and a fresh newel post. We also relocated the radiator just outside the new bath to maximize usable space inside.

This half bath proves that even the smallest rooms can make a big design statement.
